Crickhowell, Wales.

I have fond memories of this project. I had just got back from Canada, and the majority of the quality oak timber frame had been built on a course by Hewnwood nearby in Brecon. The cabins owner, Keith and I worked together to create this wonderful little retreat.

After finishing the framing of the roof to allow for the insertion of a sleeping platform, the building was insulated and clad. Windows were a mixture of reclaimed and hand-made, with the door being made from ash felled on the farm. Using the same traditional techniques that were used on the main timber frame, I built a small children’s bunkbed as well as a sliding ladder.

This cabin is currently not available to rent to the public, but it was fortunate to be included on the list of the top 50 holiday cottages by The Guardian in 2016.

Cubjac, France

This was a massive project, which included building a meditation centre at the Moulin Des Chaves which included a main hall, accommodation and utility wings. These was a really fun project, with lots of chamfers, interesting doorways, and hammerbeam trusses over a 10m span.

The project was built with locally sourced oak, and naturally bent trees were used to create the curved timbers that you can find here.

Excideuil, France

This was one of my first timber frames in France, and one of my favourites. A simple truss design that adds character to the beating heart the house, the kitchen.
